*Watch the video about the two students from Central America and take notes. You need at least 6 facts from each half of the video.
*Create a double bubble map to compare and contrast the two students and their countries.

*Finish Unit 1 Lesson 1 bingo card - 25 Spanish words on the front and 10 English translations/15 pictures on the back.

Preliminary Lesson Quiz

The Preliminary Lesson Quiz will be given on Wednesday, January 19, 2011. The format of the quiz is described below.

*Section 1 - Listening
-You will hear five children spell their names using the Spanish alphabet. You will have to write down their names.

*Section 2 - Listening
-You will hear messages from a voice mail system. Each message will contain a phone number. You will have to write down the phone number.

*Section 3 - Reading
-You will read a dialogue between 3 people who are just meeting one another. Then, you will have to answer 5 True/False questions about the dialogue. If the statement is false, you will have to correct it.

*Section 4 - Translation
-You will see 5 expressions that your teacher might say to you in Spanish and you will have to translate them into English.
Tuesday, January 18, 2011 -

Class Summary:
*Warm up - Students started a new warm up paper.
*Inside/Outside Circle to practice vocabulary from pages 22, 23 and 25.
*Listened to dialogues from the text CD.
*Additional dictation practice with numbers and names.
*Block 5 - traded weather pictures and wrote 3 sentences about them.
*Block 5 - traded word searches and solved them.


Homework:
*Write out five phone numbers and then write out the phone numbers using the Spanish words for each number. This is due tomorrow.
*Email due this Friday: Research Ellen Ochoa and send me a one paragraph summary of what you learned about her. This is due to my pvlearners account by 7:30 am this Friday, January 21, 2011.
*Study for quiz tomorrow over numbers, alphabet and vocabulary from pages 22, 23 and 25.

Class Summary:
*Warm up
*Students turned in their first set of warm ups for January 4 - January 14.
*Students added the four seasons to their vocabulary lists:
-el invierno = winter
-la primavera = spring
-el verano = summer
-el otono = fall
*Blocks 1 and 2 - Students received a weather picture that had been created by another student in the class. The student then had to write at least 3 sentences describing the weather and the season.
*Class discussion about Carlos Santana and his contributions. We looked at his picture and listened to "Oye Como Va".
*Blocks 1 and 2 traded student created word searches and solved them.

Homework:
*Blocks 1 and 2 - finish student created word searches.

Class Summary:
*Warm up
*Class repetition of numbers and phrases from pages 22 and 23
*Vocabulary practice with a partner
*Students created a word search using 18 Spanish words or phrases from pages 16, 22, 23 and 25. The Spanish words should be hidden in the puzzle and the English words should be listed at the bottom of the paper as clues.
*Any students who still needed to - recited the alphabet, presented their dialogues or had their binders checked.

Homework:
*Finish creating a word search using the vocabulary from pages 16, 22, 23 and 25.
*Carlos Santana email is due by Friday morning at 7:30

*Students continued to present their dialogs and the alphabet.
*Students set up their binders with dividers labeled with the following headings:
1. Tarea (homework)
2. Warm Ups
3. Vocabulario
4. Verbos
5. Apuntes (notes)
*Students showed me their binders.
*Students created their first bingo cards using Spanish words and phrases from page 25 on the front of the card - no free space. On the back, the students filled in in English translations for 16 of the words and pictures for the other 9 words.

*Research Carlos Santana. Send an email to my pvlearners account (wwilson@pvlearners.net) by 7:30 am Friday, January 17, 2011 telling me at least 3 reasons why Santana is famous. This should be written in English and in a paragraph form.

*Warm Up - Students learned the format for warm ups. Today we wrote out the Spanish for the date, day of the week for today, day of the week for tomorrow, the time, the weather and the season.
*The students were shown the textbook web site: www.classzone.com
*The students were also shown the website for this blog: wwilsonspanish3-4.blogspot.com
*Two new questions were added to the dialog:
- Where are you from?
-How old are you?
*Students had an opportunity to practice their dialogs with a partner.
*Students completed the Student Interest Inventory.
*Students were given additional time to copy the vocabulary from page 25.

Homework:
*Look and listen for any Spanish words that you see or hear in the next 24 hours. Bring a list of the words to class tomorrow.
*Remember you emails, binders and dividers that are due on Monday, January 10, 2011
Monday, January 3, 2011 -

Class Summary:
*Students completed the student information sheet while I signed schedules.
*Blocks 1 and 2 the alphabet was introduced.
*All 3 blocks completed the Find Someone Who Grid activity.
*Students were assigned textbook numbers.
*Blocks 2 and 5 started copying the vocabulary for the Preliminary Lesson on page 25 in the textbook.
*Initial conversation questions were introduced:
-How are you?
-What is your name?
*Students practiced the dialogs with a partner.

*None for tonight
*Students will need to have a binder and five dividers for this class on Monday, January 10, 2011.
